The Fifth Dimension

Bókin The Fifth Dimension inniheldur þrjá kafla. Sá fyrsti inniheldur ljóð Davids Gislasonar, annar kafli geymir ljóð eftir íslensk-kanadíska höfunda frá síðari hluta nítjándu aldar til okkar tíma, og í þriðja kafla bókarinnar má finna þýðingar Davids á ljóðum íslenskra skálda. Í lok hvers kafla má finna skýringar Davids á viðkomandi skáldum og jafnframt þeim kringumstæðum sem mótuðu hans skrif og þýðingar.

Skáldið, þýðandinn og bóndinn David Gislason frá Arborg í Manitóba hefur hlotið fjölda viðurkenninga fyrir störf sín í þágu menningar.

The first part of the book consists of poems written by Gislason, the second of his English translations of poems written by Icelandic immigrants and Canadians of Icelandic descent from the late nineteenth century to modern times, and in the third and final section of the collection, the reader is presented with Gíslason’s translations of poems, written by Icelandic poets throughout several past centuries. At the end of each section, Gislason provides the reader with information on the poets involved, describing also the circumstances leading up to the writing of both his poems and his translations.

The farmer, translator and poet David Gislason from Arborg, Manitoba, has received numerous awards for his cultural and heritage work.
